Veterans Services of the Carolinas provides services for Veterans and their families in North Carolina. Services include outreach to homeless Veterans through Project Assistance for Transitioning Homelessness (PATH); rapid rehousing and homeless prevention services through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program; employment and training support through the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP); and service coordination through NCServes-Western.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)

Supportive Services for Veteran Families is a homeless prevention program designed to help veterans and their families maintain their current housing, or helping find them new and affordable housing. ABCCM's goal is to improve housing stability for low-income veteran families through the SSVF Program, and is a 26-county regional effort to bring an end to homelessness among veterans.  

SSVF specialists support veterans by providing case management, assistance in obtaining VA benefits, and coordination of community resources. Services may include:

  • Case management services

  • Housing search assistance

  • Temporary financial assistance

This program covers 28 Western North Carolina counties: Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, McDowell, Macon, Madison, Mecklenburg, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, and Yancey.

Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP)

The HVRP program serves homeless veterans who need assistance in order to enter, re-enter, remain, or advance in the workforce. Through short-term training programs, focusing on industry recognized certifications and licenses, HVRP is committed to ensuring veterans receive the training and support needed to secure career level jobs that pay living wages.

  • Vocational counseling

  • Job-driven training

  • Job search assistance

  • Assistance with tools, clothing, fees and transportation

ABCCM is the local coordination center for NCServes - Western, the region’s first coordinated network of public, private and nonprofit organizations working together to serve veterans, service members and their families. NCServes - Western uses technology and its partner network to guide veterans, service members and their families to the most appropriate services and resources available. NCServes - Western covers 12 counties: Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, , Rutherford, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Transylvania, and Yancey.

NCServes – Western partners with providers in the areas of housing, employment, education, legal, financial, social enrichment and recreation, VA benefits, health care (physical and mental health), family support and food security.
