ABC World News with David Muir Monday,
Nov 8th at 6:30pm honoring Veteran Jessica Case
An amazing set of events has transpired in the past week. I want you all to tune in and celebrate with us as you watch ABC World News Tonight with David Muir this Monday evening during the 6:30 news. For those of you who watched the ABCCM Gala event, one video featured a courageous female Veteran, Jessica Case, who shared how Veteran Services of the Carolinas responded to her crisis by providing housing, job training and then placement. Jessica said she “got her dream job at the Charles George VA Medical Center….” Through the excellent work of VSC Case Manager, Tera Jabs, this mom and her two boys were rapidly rehoused, provided employment and training to reach her dream job, as well as a host of supportive services that led to permanent housing.
Secretary Walsh with US-DOL contacted NC VETS State Director, Lane Dyer, and invited him to submit a candidate to be recognized as an example of the success of US-DOL’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP). Brandon Wilson, Director of Veteran Services of the Carolinas (VSC) immediately responded with a written submission of Jessica Case. Having just recognized Jessica Case at the ABCCM Gala, it was perfect timing to submit her story and the video. Marketing Director, Jeff Goss, swung into action with B-Clip to prepare the video submission. Jessica is an honorable and courageous Veteran who went through ABCCM’s Veteran employment and training program, got her dream job and her own permanent home. Secretary Walsh selected her to be featured by US-Department of Labor (DOL) and made a special video with her last Thursday, Nov. 4th in Washington DC. On Friday, Nov. 5th, we heard that Jessica’s story had reached Bob Woodruff who then contacted the Secretary and recommended that she be featured on ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir, this Monday, Nov. 8th.
How did Bob Woodruff and his Foundation get involved? This is another part of this amazing set of events.
Brandon Wilson, Director of VSC, had cultivated a relationship with a program officer of the Bob Woodruff Foundation last spring that has led to two $10,000 grants to provide food for Veteran families across North Carolina. These funds have helped over 200 Veteran families with their food insecurity, including Jessica Case.
Every year the Bob Woodruff Foundation requests nominations for its Stand Up 4 Heroes gala at the Lincoln Center in NYC. They honor Veterans who have gone over and above in providing community leadership and service. Director Wilson nominated Brandon Davis and he was selected out of the over 1500 nominations nationwide. He is being flown up Sunday night to be honored at the Monday evening star-studded event which will include spending the evening with Bob and Lee Woodruff.
Brandon Davis is on staff with ABCCM’s VSC team as the Senior Care Coordinator with our Veterans Call Center. The Call Center receives calls from Veterans in crisis across 74 counties in NC and Brandon has gone over and above on numerous occasions to help resolve those situations in a matter of hours or a few days. We are so proud of him on our team.
Director Wilson communicated with the Bob Woodruff Foundation about the honor being bestowed by Secretary Walsh on Veteran Jessica Case. When Bob Woodruff heard about this, he called one of the producers at ABC World News Tonight, shared the story and recommended that they feature this as part of honoring Veterans this week in the run-up to Veterans Day. A producer called Brandon Wilson and Jessica Case to get permissions to feature her story. They are going to feature her on the Monday night news show which will highlight both Bob Woodruff’s Foundation and ABCCM.
All of us at ABCCM are so proud of Director Brandon Wilson and the great work of Veteran Services of the Carolinas. Tera Jabs and Brandon Davis represent the spirit of all the team members who serve across NC. Services include:
Outreach to homeless Veterans through Healing Outreach Partnership for Empowerment (HOPE): in Buncombe and 5 surrounding counties.
Rapid rehousing and homeless prevention through Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF): 28 WNC counties
Employment and training support through Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP): 49 NC counties including regions: WNC, Piedmont, and Coastal.
NCServes through Veterans Call Center: 74 NC counties including regions WNC, Foothills, Piedmont, and Coastal.
We give thanks to God for orchestrating these events. He is lifting up the fruit of ABCCM’s work to honor two very special Veterans: Jessica Case and Brandon Davis. Please pray for traveling mercies. Please pray for all of ABCCM’s Ministries, because each of them serve Veterans through our Crisis Ministry, Jail Ministry, Veterans Restoration Quarters, Transformation Village, Medical Ministry and Veteran Services of the Carolinas. Without the churches and volunteers, none of this would be possible. We thank God for all that His churches and His people have made possible!!
Thank YOU!
