About ABCCM
Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) is one of the key non-profit organizations addressing poverty, hunger, homelessness and access to health care for the under-served in Buncombe County, serving annually around 21, 764, or 1 in 12 persons in 2019. Begun as a small collaboration of churches in 1969, ABCCM has played a significant role in meeting emergency assistance needs for families in crisis, coordinating religious services and education activities at the jail, providing transitional and permanent supportive housing of the homeless through 300 beds, increasing access to health care for half the uninsured and medically underserved; as well as work readiness, mentoring and job placement services. We serve veterans across 26 WNC counties.
ABCCM is generously supported by over 289 churches of all denominations and 6,100 trained volunteers and provides emergency assistance to anyone in need regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, or disability.
Crisis Ministry
Crisis Ministry has four locations around the county providing emergency assistance to individuals and families such as food, clothing, furniture and financial assistance for heat, utilities and rent/mortgage, etc; plus we have a Donation Center and Thrift Store.
Homeless Services
ABCCM's Homeless Services program is made up of two transitional housing facilities: the Veterans Restoration Quarters for men and the Steadfast House for women and children. Both of these facilities provide housing, food, case management, education and connection to both mental and physical health providers to their residents.
Veterans Services of the Carolinas
ABCCM’s veterans services provide housing, food, case management, education and connection to both mental and physical health providers to residents of ABCCM’s Veterans Restoration Quarters (men’s facility) and Steadfast House (women’s facility). Programs also include Veterans Workforce Investment Program (VWIP), Operation Welcome Home and Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) helping veteran families in WNC, from Charlotte to Murphy and from Boone to Tryon, with homeless prevention and rapid re-housing. Veterans Employment & Training Services (VETS) assist with skills assessment, training, job placement and coaching for those seeking new career level jobs to break the bonds of homelessness and poverty.
Medical Ministry
Medical Ministry is where we care for the uninsured in Buncombe County. We offer medical services for acute and essential primary care; provide dental services through extractions; and, our licensed pharmacy distributes over one million dollars in prescriptions each year.
Jail Ministry
Jail Ministry provides inmates with new meaning and direction through pastoral counseling, Bible studies, educational materials and a library cart.
